Ornithological Surveys

Bird surveys using point counts, transects and bioacoustics, including the surveys required for energy and infrastructure projects.

Overview

Ornithological surveys identify which bird species use a site, when and how. For wind, solar, transmission and other infrastructure, they also show where birds fly and how often, which is the evidence a regulator or lender needs to judge collision and displacement risk.

Ornithological Surveys

How we approach it

We combine point counts and transects for breeding and resident species, vantage point surveys for flight activity, and bioacoustic recorders that run for weeks where observers can't. Surveys cover the seasons that matter, including migration. Recordings are processed on NatureCube and checked by specialists.

What we deliver

  • Survey design to national guidance and lender requirements
  • Point counts, transects and vantage point surveys
  • Long-duration bioacoustic monitoring with expert-verified identifications
  • Species lists, abundance and occupancy where the design supports them
  • Flight activity analysis to inform collision and displacement risk
  • Recommendations for mitigation and post-construction monitoring

What you receive

A survey report and verified dataset that a regulator or lender can review, with clear recommendations for the approval or monitoring path ahead.

When you need it

Use this for energy and linear infrastructure projects, for sites near important bird areas or migration routes, or when priority bird species are a critical habitat trigger.
